THEME: DARING TO DREAM: A FOCUS ON TOM MBOYA.

21st January 2022

As is now a tradition in BKIS, every third Monday of January we take time to commemorate a very important figure in black history and the fight for social justice and equality, Martin Luther King Jr.

On Monday the 17th, we engaged our students in various activities as a way to sensitise them and join the rest of the world in marking this important day whilst shining a light on our very own revolutionary leaders. This time around, it was done with a little twist to appreciate the local history and let our boys and girls know that as a country there were people like Martin Luther King Junior who had a great vision of our beloved country. This led us to an in-depth study of Tom Joseph Mboya; an icon in Kenyan history. It was amazing to see different classes emersed in exciting activities that also helped in appreciating the curriculum links. Fs2 students watched a video and did colouring activities based on Tom Mboya. They were so proud to display their work out on the MLK board.

Our struggle is not an isolated struggle. We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality." Martin Luther King Jr., May 1959
